NY SRECs (Solar Renewable Energy Credits): 5000MW of solar generation by 2025
Ron Kamen reviewed the impact of 45 x 15: 15% reductions through efficiency plus 30% renewable energy supply by 2015, and its goals, PV installations in New York State and the existing NY Solar incentive structure. He showed that New York State is falling far behind neighboring states in a solar development policy, with New Jersey over 7x the actual 2010 Solar PV installations compared to NY.
A clean economy for New York would create 20,000+ new jobs, with global clean-energy doubling by 2020 in biofuels, wind power and solar power.
Quoting NYSERDA and Pace Energy and Climate Center, the presentation shows that Solar PV is a declining cost industry, with projections of the reduction of installed system cost by approximately 50% by 2015.
The NY Solar Jobs Act sponsored by assemblyman Englebright predicts the cumulative economic impacts (through 2025) of 22,000+ new jobs and an economic output of over 20 billion dollars.
Much has changed this year, including the emergence of Governor Andrew Cuomo as a powerful chief executive who, at least during the campaign, strongly supported solar.
